I am a musician, a Pilgrim Soul — and this site is the platform I am using to navigate the next chapter of my life.
That chapter has three parts happening more or less simultaneously. The first is finishing a book — The Stilted Pilgrim, a memoir of walking 437 miles across Britain on stilts in 2013, following the ancient Michael and Mary ley lines from Hopton on Sea in Norfolk to St Michael's Mount in Cornwall. 56 days. 89 stages. A charity walk for Shelter that became something stranger and more significant than I could have anticipated at the start. The book has been a long time finding its shape. It is nearly ready. This site is where it will launch.
The second part is a journey. Soon — a campervan expedition around Britain with my two dogs, Marley and Ziggy. No fixed itinerary beyond following what calls: ancient sites, sacred places, communities of people who have chosen to live differently, friends old and new, wild and wondrous corners of this island that most people drive past. I will be writing along the way, recording music — both my own and that of people I meet on the road — and making videos from the places themselves. The journey is also research for a second book. And beneath all of that, it is a long search for the place where the soul says: here.
HOME — Here On Mother Earth. I am looking for mine. Not a house. A belonging.
The third part is the music. There is an album — Symphony Of Man — made with care and released too quietly, years ago. It is here now. New music is forming from the road: live sessions in pubs and community halls, collaborations with musicians encountered along the way, recordings made in the places themselves. The troubadour model — music as a living, moving thing rather than a product waiting for a release date.
There is also a gathering place here for anyone drawn to a similar path — a Forum, a Havens directory, a Vision Fire screen, a curated Directory of fellow travellers. This site is not a promotional exercise. It is a door left open.
